Kingdoms of the Dump is an original adventure in a JRPG style set in a whimsical post-apocalyptic world made out of garbage. The game follows the story of a simple washing machine lid named Wash and his best friend, Skid, who is a garbage bag, as they are suddenly thrown into an amusing quest to save the kingdom after the king’s crown—a literal toilet seat—is stolen. The game is filled with humor and political intrigue among the various kingdoms of trash (like the Kingdom of the Moldy and the Empire of the Dump) and has a charming cast of characters made from junk. The story and themes feel fresh while feeling like a light-hearted parody of fantasy tropes and the RPG formula.

The gameplay does feature turn-based action combat in an RPG format with a twist, adding timing-based action commands (similar to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario) to enhance attacks and defense. Players will be able to recruit a cast of peculiar party members, including soldiers, magic wielders, and a sofa that are all based on their junk-world origin (a trash can knight or a discarded sofa). For exploration, players will traverse a colorful isometric world map to explore, secrets to find, and denizens of the dump to interact with.
